Thermal Analysis of Chemical Residues
A chemical processing plant contained residues that could undergo an exothermic reaction to produce heat and in the worst case ignite. To ensure the safety of the plant, the vessels containing the residues were maintained full of water.
The Issues
The requirement to maintain the vessels full of water was restricting decommissioning operations. A new safety case for the plant was being developed to show that the residues presented no hazard, if the vessels were drained.
REACT undertook a literature survey to determine the current state of knowledge of the reaction under consideration.
