Our Solution
A worst case scenario of vessel and residues was selected for detailed
analysis. A finite element model was used to predict the temperature
rise in the residues, if the water was removed from the vessel. This
included consideration of conductive and convective heat transfer
within the vessel walls and the residue bed.
It was possible to
show that the temperature rise in the residues as a result of draining
the water was significantly below the level of concern and a new safety
case could be developed for draining the vessels.
