A new innovative design could boost the international profile and fortunes of REACT Engineering.

We were recently honoured at the Institution of Engineering and Technology Awards for our work developing a radiation measurement tool. As finalists at the prestigious national awards -- held in London -- which saw us competing with companies such as BT for the Control, Instrumentation and Robotics Award, our new system, designed by 29-year-old engineer Matt Mellor, employs the same 3D techniques used by medical imaging scanners to not only indicate the amount of radiation in the air but also pinpoint its source on decommissioning projects.

Trevor Craig, a REACT director, said: “Being short-listed for one of the highly prestigious IET Innovation Awards has been a major landmark for REACT. Our innovation, N-Visage™, has major potential for reducing decommissioning costs and improving safety. We have already undertaken a number of projects and significant further interest has been shown by customers.” The uniqueness of the system means REACT are to obtain an international patent for their technology which will promote them across the globe. Matt said: “It has huge potential for the nuclear industry. We are providing companies with an excellent service which is cost effective and has lower risk.’’
