Into Engineering 2008

Students from Cockermouth, Wyndham, Whitehaven and Workington schools took part in the 10th Into Engineering Seminar. The students experienced hands-on solid modelling, CAD (Computer Aided Design), REACT's own NVisage System and covered many other aspects of  engineering as part of the mini decommissioning project task set to them by REACT's engineers.

To coincide with the 300th Anniversary of Whitehaven Harbour the students were also given a talk by Terry Ponting on the engineering behind the lock gates and took a trip to see the gates in operation at the harbour.

Rowan Matthews, who has overseen the week's activities and also a project manager for REACT said 'This week is about a variety of things, firstly and importantly for the students it about giving them a worthwhile expereince and letting them make an informed decison about whether engineering is for them.  For REACT and the county it's about attracting youngsters into engineering and hopefull encouraging them to return to Cumbria in five or six years time when they have graduated.
