Phil Redfern
Luckily for REACT, 23-year-old Phil Redfern of Egremont, is one student happy to return home to Cumbria.
He recently graduated from Leeds University with a first in mechanical engineering and is now working at REACT as a graduate engineer. With such impressive qualifications he could have his pick of jobs across the country however he is back in Copeland due to his affection for the area and the career potential offered to him by REACT. He said: "I’ve always been interested in engineering as it is about being challenged, showing initiative and taking responsibility."
A former Wyndham pupil, Phil took part in REACT’s Into Engineering Week while studying for his A levels and then went on to work with REACT during his Year in Industry which he did before studying at university. “The Year in Industry scheme allows students a better idea of where they want to go,’’ he explained. “Taking part in the scheme confirmed that engineering was the career for me. "It helps to build confidence and improve your focus and presentation skills. I’m very glad I did it".
Throughout university he continued to work for REACT during the summer holidays gaining invaluable experience. Now the promise of a successful career with the company has encouraged him back from Leeds. “My girlfriend is here, I’ve just bought a house and I enjoy mountain biking in the area,’’ Phil explained. “I’m happy to be home.’’
