Paul Botterill - Principal Consultant

Paul Botterill from Lichfield, Staffs, joined REACT in July 1999 after studying Chemical Engineering at Nottingham University. Paul is a Fellow of Institute of Chemical Engineer with experience in both the chemical and nuclear industries. Following graduation Paul spent 5 years in the chemical manufacturing industry working on chemical plant design, asset management and commissioning. Since joining REACT Paul has undertaken a wide range of projects covering areas such as decommissioning strategy and schedule development, safety case development, plant modification methodology development, technical option studies and risk and project management support. Paul is committed to nuclear decommissioning which he says is inextricably linked to the clean-up agenda.

"If the nuclear industry is to have any future then it's imperative that the country as a whole agrees that nuclear power is the way forward," he argues. "However, in order to convince the public that nuclear power is the way forward then the industry needs to demonstrate that it can handle nuclear waste safely, quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively. Successful nuclear decommissioning provides a vehicle to deliver this."

Paul says nuclear and indeed any type of industrial decommissioning is at the heart of environmental restoration. A keen recycler in his domestic life, working for REACT on key projects enables him to influence much larger-scale environmental projects. I get a real feeling that I am contributing to the improvement of the environment for myself, my family and society as a whole."
