Rowan Matthews - Project Engineer

Rowan joined REACT in October 2006 and is currently working towards Chartered Engineer status on the monitored professional development scheme (MPDS).  Rowan graduated from the University of Glasgow with a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering, which incorporated a final year research placement at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) for the European Commission, Italy.

Rowan's experience within REACT has included production of Front End Engineering work packages, Best Practicable Means Cases and Assessments, Plant Modification Proposals, preparation of Detailed Method Statements and development of Work Safety Plans.

When asked why REACT Rowan said "REACT appealed to my principals.  I liked the idea of being involved with something that really mattered, and being a part of the nuclear clean up seemed fitting.  The size of the company and its work ethics were also big deciding factors.  Being part of a smaller company can be very rewarding and I feel opportunities have been given to me earlier than they would have if I had gone into a large corporation.  Strangely, the Lake District was not part of my decision to move down to Cumbria but it is a very welcome bonus."
