Cost Estimation & Risk Assessment
Two redundant chemical processing facilities, that formerly handled radioactive material in large stainless steel process vessels with large quantities of associated pipework, were to be dismantled. The plant was contained within confined process cells.
The Issues
The process pipework and vessels were contaminated. They required size reduction and handling in confined spaces by operatives wearing protective clothing. Very limited historical data existed to support cost estimation of the work or help define potential hazards that may be encountered when doing the work.
