REACT win National STEMNET Award
REACT Engineering has been honoured by the Science & Engineering Ambassadors (SEAs) Programme.
REACT staff were invited to London by The Lord Oxburgh, KBE to attend the STEMNET (Science, Engineering, Technology & Mathematics Network) Reception for Inspiring Work in Education. The team were delighted when Pete Woolaghan, director of REACT accepted the award on behalf of the company from Lord Sainsbury at the House of Lords in London.
The firm was put forward by Tony Gill, director of SETPOINT Cumbria, following its work to "inspire and enthuse young people'' about the potential of engineering as a career. Over the past year, the firm has supported a SETPOINT Cumbria event for Year 8 girls, offered a Nuffield Bursary project, held a Science & Engineering show for 2,000 West Cumbria Year 6 pupils through its charity, The REACT Foundation, and organized an ‘Into Engineering Week' for Year 12 pupils. The firm has also sent its engineers into local primary schools to help with the K'NEX Challenge organized by SETPOINT Cumbria.
Pete said: "We are honoured to have been awarded and delighted to be appreciated at national level. Our experience has shown that the ambassadors find the work rewarding as it's a great way of making a positive difference. REACT staff felt very strongly that they could make a contribution to engineering by volunteering to become SEAs''.
