SEAs Ambassadors

TEN engineers from a REACT have been appointed as special learning envoys to schools in West Cumbria.

The Science and Engineering Ambassadors Programme promotes science, technology, engineering and mathematics by providing enthusiastic, vetted volunteers to work which young people and teachers. Science and Engineering Ambassadors are individuals who have a background in any aspect of Science, Engineering or Technology and want to help inspire young people about the possibilities these subjects and careers can bring.

REACT’s Science & Engineering Ambassadors (SEAs) will now work with schools in Copeland and Allerdale on a regular basis to spread the word about engineering. “We all volunteered to sign up so it’s brilliant that every single one of us has been accepted,” said REACT engineer Rob McOuat. The Science, Engineering, Technology & Mathematics Network (SETNET) screens all applicants to the scheme which encourages suitable candidates to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) to young people.

Tony Gill, Director of SETPOINT Cumbria which is the county arm of SETNET, explained that to have ten ambassadors from one relatively small company was rare.
