I attended React’s Into Engineering work experience week in 2023, where I first learned about the React Futures Scheme. The scheme supports university students who are interested in the nuclear industry by giving them the opportunity to gain industry experience alongside their studies.

After applying, I was accepted onto the scheme and joined React as an Engineering Consultant during my gap year after completing my A- levels. During that year I gained valuable experience, built my confidence in a professional environment, and made some great friends. Everyone at React was welcoming and supportive, which made it an enjoyable place to work and confirmed that it was somewhere I wanted to build my career.

As part of the Futures Scheme, I return to React each summer while I’m at university, and after graduating I’ll be joining the company full-time as an Engineering Consultant. I’m looking forward to continuing to learn more about the nuclear industry and developing my career at React.

I originally discovered React at a careers fair at the University of Glasgow. There is a real culture of improvement that became obvious from those initial conversations. React is a place that genuinely strives to give people early in their careers the opportunity to gain experience and develop professionally.

I joined on a Summer Placement, during which I worked on a real project with unique challenges that education alone could not provide. This was a really rewarding experience that allowed me to develop my knowledge of the nuclear industry and learn from an experienced team.

At the end of my placement, I was offered a place on the Futures Scheme, which means that I will return to React every summer, with a job secured for me after I graduate. The Future scheme is the perfect opportunity to develop my professional career while being able to focus fully on my studies.
