Role: Head of Development

“My first introduction to React was as an 18 year old through a Year In Industry placement. Over the year I got to see a wide range of different engineering and technical projects, looking at everything from radiation monitoring, to forward motion compensation technology in aircrafts as well as implementation documents to support work on nuclear licenced sites.

Following the year I decided to follow my own path through industry, moving just north of London. During this time, I was able to experience a wide range of industries and roles including; project managing small geomatic surveying tasks, processing rail track geometry data, and producing corporate and regulatory reports for the rail sector. I learned so much during this time; working across many different sectors allowed me to experience how project delivery and business differed across the different sectors.

When it came to settling down I knew there was nowhere better to raise a family than back in Cumbria. I moved back to the area and where better to continue my career journey than back with React. I joined the company in 2014 as a Project Engineering Consultant, building my technical knowledge and skills helping to solve decommissioning problems, working as part of multi-disciplinary teams, delivering complex decommissioning projects.

I’ve been involved with many projects and aspects within the company, shaping my career around my strengths and supporting others to do the same. My role is continuously evolving as I grow alongside the company. I’ve been a framework manager overseeing a portfolio in excess of £50million, led React’s remediation business unit, ran sales and operations as part of the company’s leadership team and now in my role as Head of Development, I get to apply my creativity in a totally different space.

Personally, my proudest achievements at React relate to the opportunities I’ve been able to fulfil supporting young people to be the best they can be and seeing the wider impact we can make as a business in the community we are part of. In my role as a trustee of the React Foundation charity I have had the privilege to watch many bright young Cumbrians go on to achieve their potential following their own unique educational and career paths”.
